As MP wrote back in November, a traditional bach in New Zealand is a very basic, modest holiday home or beach house. Over time however most of these holiday houses have become more modern and more expensive and tend to contain all the comforts of home.
As you will have seen if you have been following our regular series of posts on a Wednesday we often refer to Ikea as a key place to kit out a holiday house. Now, as much as I love Ikea, there is no way we would want to have absolutely everything from there in our future bach. Nor, will we be likely to fill it with designer goods. It will most likely be a mix of second hand furniture, stuff that we are getting rid of from our own houses and inexpensive buys from local New Zealand stores.
If we do look for any higher end pieces though I think it is hard to go past the Danish brand Hay for quality and design at a comparatively inexpensive price. Below are some of my favourite pieces from their range.
The Hay Strap Mirror in grey (designed by Hay Studio).
The Hay Loop Stand Wardrobe (designed by Leif Joergensen).
The Hay Hee Lounge Chair in light blue (designed by Hee Welling).
The Hay Woody Storage System.
The Hay Pinocchio Rug.
Actually, I would be happy with pretty much anything they do!
