Quillan, France

We recently travelled to Quillan in the south of France to stay at a friend's beautiful house which is available to rent here.

We were welcomed with a lovely basket of local produce including a bottle of the local sparkling wine called Blanquette de Limoux which was very nice, especially after a 10 hour journey to get there!

Quillan itself is a sleepy town based along the river Aude which runs along the back of the house. We filled our days by visiting local swimming pools and market towns and just relaxing at the house. There was a very well equipped kitchen and lots of utensils which made cooking easy.

We drove to Carcassonne for a day trip which is about 45 minutes away. The walled city is breathtaking and apparently was the inspiration for Disney's Sleeping Beauty. It's the second most visited tourist attraction in France behind the Eiffel Tower which I found surprising.

From there we drove back up north to spend a few days in the heart of Provence. Stay tuned for details of that trip!
